Journey Into Night" portrays the haunted Tyrone family,
whose demons keep them from enjoying the fruits of the American
dream. Boldly preserving the Aristotelian unities of time, place
and action, playwright Eugene O'Neill lays bare his family's
tortured past in a single day. So personal were the autobiographical
revelations in the piece, O'Neill stipulated that it not be performed
until 25 years after its writing. His widow Carlotta ignored
this caveat and rushed it to production shortly after O'Neill's
