The year is 1938 - the
apex of Hollywood's Golden Era. In production are such classics
as WIZARD OF OZ, MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON, GONE WITH THE
WIND, WUTHERING HEIGHTS, AND NINOTCHA, to name a few of the 380
films made in this - Hollywood's most prolific year. Eighty-five
million people attended the movies each week. The average admission
price was 23 cents.
While the creators of
Romanoff's wish to acknowledge a debt of gratitude to Mike Romanoff
and his patrons, this play is not a biography but rather an affectionate
recreation of the period and an expression of Hollywood as a
state of mind.
